High School Chemistry & Physics - Job Description

 

La Salle Academy, an all-male college preparatory high school, seeks an experienced teacher. Located in the East Village neighborhood of New York City, La Salle Academy is a small school with a 177 year history that enrolls a culturally diverse student population. It is a member of the international network of Lasallian Schools.

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, or science education or Master's degree or higher.

 

Experience:

  • Valid state teaching certification in science preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Chemistry and Physics content and laboratory practices.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering student success and lifelong learning.

 

Timeframe: End-August- June

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan and deliver effective lessons aligned with school curriculum standards.
  • Teach Chemistry and Physics courses utilizing a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Design and implement laboratory investigations that reinforce scientific concepts and promote inquiry-based learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Integrate technology and real-world applications into science instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
  • Collaborate with department members to ensure curriculum alignment and instructional excellence.
  • Support school initiatives, extracurricular activities, and student engagement opportunities.

 

Salary: $55,076 + starting salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
