Overview
A private family based in Brooklyn is seeking a talented full-time private chef to provide full-time culinary leadership for 3-4 adults weekly. The chef will prepare healthy and delicious meals with organic and fresh ingredients. The ideal candidate is passionate about nutritious, well-balanced cooking, and is highly organized. This hands-on role requires a polished, professional presence. The schedule will generally be Monday–Friday, with some flexibility to work weekends, particularly when the family entertains on occasion.
Responsibilities
● Design and prepare daily meals tailored to the principals' preferences (for example: no pork in the home and 1 principal doesn’t eat sweet bell peppers) ● Maintain menu variety and seasonality through structured, forward-looking menu planning and ingredients procurement that takes advantage of area farmers' markets and specialty food shops● Execute daily lunches and dinners for the family and prepare healthy snacks; occasionally breakfast, TBD. Likely something prepared the day before but they can have the next day (overnight oats, cut up fruit, quiche, etc.).● Scale confidently and consistently across occasions from an intimate family dinner to a dinner party● Own all food sourcing, purchasing, and related inventory management with emphasis on quality, seasonality, and sustainability.● Maintain organized inventory inspections and procurement schedules that prevent both shortages and waste.● Track food costs and kitchen budgets; provide regular, accurate reporting to the family’s Chief-of-Staff● Ensure the high-quality kitchen equipment and household interiors are maintained in pristine condition.● Communicate proactively with principals and colleagues● Respond constructively to feedback and adjust performance, menus, or approach accordingly.
Requirements
● 5+ years of recent, full-time experience as Chef in a single private residence● Demonstrated range across cuisines● Current food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent).● Strong, structured organizational skills across menu planning, time management, inventory management, procurement, and budgeting, with the ability to run these systems independently.● Comfortable working in a home in which there are pets● Meal prep/cooking for infants/children as needed down the line● A demonstrated long-term commitment to private chef work as a career, with references that can speak to tenure, reliability, and intent to stay.
Salary and Benefits
● Competitive compensation based on experience. Starting at $140k+.● Benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation, most holidays off, and paid sick days in accordance with NY law
