Overview

A warm, busy family on the Upper West Side is seeking an experienced, proactive full-time nanny to care for their three children, ages 8, 5½, and 3½ years. The position is a guaranteed 50 hours per week, but this will likely be closer to 55 hours per week during the school year, as follows:

Monday through Thursday: 7:00/8:00am – 6:00/7:00pm

Friday: 7:00/8:00am – 5:00/6:00pm

7:00am start during the school year

8:00am start when school is not in session

All three children attend school, allowing time during the academic year to complete child-related household duties. During school holidays, vacations, and other school breaks, the nanny's focus will shift to providing full-time care for the children.

The family hopes to find a long-term nanny who will become a trusted extension of their family—someone who is warm, engaging, hands-on, and committed to building meaningful relationships with the children.

About the Family:

This family is not looking to outsource parenting; they are seeking a true partner who takes initiative, anticipates the family's needs, and naturally steps in where support is needed. They appreciate someone with common sense, strong judgment, and a proactive approach, who doesn't wait to be asked before helping.

Both parents work from home at times, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a collaborative household while also taking ownership of the children's day. There may occasionally be overlap with an afternoon babysitter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, nurturing, developmentally appropriate care for three children.
  • Manage daily routines, school schedules, and care during school breaks.
  • Plan engaging, age-appropriate activities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and independence.
  • Foster imaginative play through music, games, reading, arts and crafts, and other hands-on activities. The family would love someone who is happy to sit on the floor, play instruments such as the keyboard or drums, and actively engage with the children.
  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks for the children.
  • Complete the children's laundry and maintain tidy, organized children's spaces.
  • Assist with child-related household duties while the children are at school during the academic year.
  • No driving is required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is:

  • Warm, patient, and kind.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and takes initiative.
  • Street-smart with excellent judgment and common sense.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative household where parents occasionally work from home.
  • Energetic, playful, and genuinely enjoys engaging with children.
  • Confident supporting children with different personalities and developmental needs.

The family's oldest child experiences anxiety, so they value a nanny who approaches challenges with patience, empathy, flexibility, and emotional intelligence rather than trying to force outcomes. They place far greater importance on experience, sound instincts, and emotional intelligence than on any specific educational background.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. passport, Green Card, or EAC
  • Available to start ASAP

Travel

  • Travel is welcomed but entirely optional and is not a requirement of the role. For candidates who are interested, opportunities may include:
  • Occasional weekends at the family's Upstate New York home (Friday evening through Sunday).
  • Approximately four week-long family trips each year during school breaks, including Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and the winter holidays (candidates will still receive their regular salary if they choose to not join the family)

Salary and Benefits

  • $40/hour (W-2) + applicable overtime (with overtime incorporated, this equates to a salary of $114,400/year)
  • Monthly MetroCard
  • Optional healthcare stipend of $200/month
  • Paid vacation (candidates are encouraged to coordinate vacation time with the family's travel schedule whenever possible).
