RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) is looking for an attorney with asset management experience including fund formation and related investment advisory matters. The role will focus on the firm's private funds business across different business units and will be on the Asset and Wealth Management (AWM) legal team. The role involves acting as a key attorney with responsibility for a range of work with a particular focus on advising on the regulation, establishment, management, governance and marketing of private funds which invest in securities in both private and public markets (equity and debt as well as other asset classes such as credit, real estate, infrastructure and impact investing) and involve alternative investment funds, funds of one and managed accounts covering strategies including, among others, primary commitments to external managers, secondary investing, co-investing, GP stakes and seeding, liquid and multi-strategy funds, and access funds, and which are established in major funds domiciles globally.  The attorney will also support various portfolio management teams on executing transactions for its investment funds and related accounts. Primary responsibilities also involve identification of legal and reputational risks, managing external counsel and involvement with investment and related committees. 
 
The AWM legal team provides ongoing support with respect to other advisory, regulatory and asset management issues as well. Given the fundamental developments in regulations globally applicable to the firm's businesses and the markets that it operates, a key component of the role will also include contributing to the analysis of, and formulation of strategic responses to, shifting legal and regulatory frameworks. 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • 4+ years related legal experience in a well-regarded law firm or an in-house role
  • Familiarity with fund structures. Working knowledge of Investment Advisers Act useful 
  • Outstanding law firm and law school credentials 
  • Thought leader; strong analytical skills; sound judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivation to expand skill set and excel in a challenging business environment
  • Team player; adept at developing interpersonal relationships

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, NY, United States-based position is $170000-$270000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
