About Sequence
We are in the middle of the intelligent revolution.
In some industries, a startup will win. In others, the incumbent is advantaged. We believe the opportunity is exponential when you pair a durable moat with technology. Sequence acquires the most ambitious incumbents in the service economy and refound them as market leaders.
Our engineers work alongside management teams to reimagine the business around what is now possible with AI, rebuilding operations and workflows around Atlas, our proprietary technology platform. Atlas deepens with every business we own and makes the next refounding faster. We elevate human talent and judgment, expand the market, and create lasting value.
Sequence is based in New York City and backed by 8VC, Conviction, Lux Capital and other strategic partners.
About the Role
You will find, evaluate, and close acquisitions for Sequence Holdings - and then help build the businesses you acquire. This is not a traditional investing role. We are a permanent holding company, which means every deal you work on is one you will live with. There is no exit timeline, no portfolio rotation. The quality of your judgment compounds.
You will own the full investment lifecycle: sourcing proprietary opportunities, building relationships with founders and owners, underwriting businesses, leading diligence, and driving transactions to close. But the work doesn’t stop at signing. You will stay close to the businesses post-acquisition — shaping operating models, working alongside management, and helping define how Sequence’s technology platform transforms each company from the inside.
We are reimagining how M&A gets done. There are no layers between you and the work. No VP reviewing your model before a partner sees it, no analysts drafting your memos. You run your own processes, build your own relationships, and make recommendations directly to the people who make decisions. The structure is flat because the work demands it.
As Sequence grows, this role scales with it. You will develop deep expertise in the sectors we target, build a network of owners, bankers, and operators, and help shape the M&A strategy that defines what Sequence becomes.
Requirements
Genuine interest in AI and frontier technology. Excited to work at the intersection of investing and technology, and eager to use the best tools available to do better work
Strong financial and analytical foundation. Can build models, underwrite businesses, and evaluate complex deal structures independently
Relationship builder. Earns trust with founders, family owners, and senior executives, people making the most consequential decisions of their careers
Exceptional written communicator. Investment memos, board materials, and deal correspondence at Sequence are held to an institutional standard
Intellectually curious about how businesses actually operate, not just how they look in a spreadsheet
Entrepreneurial and self-directed. Thrives with autonomy, not instructions. Takes ownership of outcomes, not tasks
Raw horsepower and tenacity. Small team, large mandate, no hiding
Willing to travel regularly to meet owners, attend industry events, and spend time on-site at portfolio companies
Our Values
Earned Luck: We do not control markets, competition, timing, or chance. We control whether we are ready when they turn our way. Effort and preparation are the only variables entirely up to us, and we leave nothing on the table. Do the work before it is needed, at the highest standard. We are a small team going after massive opportunities: outwork everyone.
Ownership: You are an owner of Sequence. Act like it. Treat our spaces and our money as your own; they are. Take pride in the work you ship. No task is beneath you, no detail too small. The small things compound.
Long-Term Thinking: We are a permanent holding company: no fund clock, no exit to manage toward. That structure only works if we think the same way. Hold direction through good cycles and bad. Pay the short-term tax on the investments that compound. Always ask: what puts us on the steepest slope three years from now?
Intellectual Honesty: The best idea wins, regardless of who says it. Debate openly; push back regardless of hierarchy. Share credit generously; take responsibility collectively. When we are wrong, we say so immediately, extract the lesson, and move on. Concealing mistakes is unacceptable.
Customer-Centric: We have two customers: our portfolio companies, and the customers they serve. We succeed only when our customer’s customer does. Our job is to make our operating companies better at serving theirs.
Stewardship: We inherit decades of someone else's work and trust. Respect it, understand it, then build on it. The goal is to make it the best it has ever been.
Integrity: Our currency is trust. Everything we want comes through reputation: the next deal, the next hire, the next capital partner. Do the right thing, especially when no one is watching; reputation compounds faster than revenue and cannot be rebought.
