M365 Platform Engineer

Position Summary

Vista Equity Partners is seeking an M365 Platform Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our Microsoft 365 platform using modern infrastructure-as-code and automation practices. This role combines platform engineering principles with M365 administration to create scalable, secure, and self-service solutions. The position also serves as backup to our IAM Platform Engineer for Entra ID operations.

This role will be based in our Austin or New York office in a hybrid capacity.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement automation solutions for M365 platform management using PowerShell, Bash, and Terraform.
• Configure, secure, and monitor all M365 services (excluding SharePoint) using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Develop and maintain Azure Automation, Logic Apps, Power Automate, and Power Apps for automated response to platform events.
• Manage Microsoft Entra ID configurations including conditional access policies, privileged access management, and identity lifecycle automation.
• Implement and maintain security policies across the M365 stack, including Defender for Office 365 and Information Protection.
• Assist in administration and governance of Power Platform environments.
• Create self-service capabilities and automated workflows to reduce manual administrative overhead.
• Serve as backup for IAM Platform Engineer, supporting ITGC controls and identity governance activities.
• Collaborate with security team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Document platform configurations, automation scripts, and operational procedures.
• Participate in on-call rotation for platform-related incidents.
• Collaborate with and mentor the service desk team to reduce manual M365 operational tasks.
• Manage and secure Exchange Online, including mail flow rules, anti-phishing policies, transport configurations, and mailbox provisioning.
• Lead and support Exchange migrations (on-premises to Exchange Online and tenant-to-tenant), including planning, execution, coexistence management, and post-migration stabilization.

Qualifications

          Technical Skills

• 5+ years administering Microsoft 365 environments.
• Strong PowerShell scripting for M365 and Azure automation.
• Experience with Bash scripting and Linux/Unix environments.
• Hands-on Microsoft Entra ID administration and security.
• Deep understanding of M365 security features (Conditional Access, MFA, DLP).
• Experience with Git and CI/CD concepts.
• Knowledge of IAM protocols (SAML, OAuth, modern authentication).
• Experience executing Exchange migrations, including hybrid configurations, mailbox moves, and mail flow cutovers.Soft Skills

• Terraform for infrastructure-as-code implementations.
• Microsoft Graph API and REST-based automation.
• Power Platform administration and governance.
• Microsoft certifications (MS-102, AZ-104, SC-300).
• Familiarity with ITIL or service management frameworks.
• Experience with identity governance and administration (IGA) initiatives.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Purview administration.
