POSITION SUMMARY:    

The Medical Assistant supports Providers and clinical staff by assisting with patient care activities, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and high quality patient care. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Support and Patient Care

•    Participate in pre visit planning by reviewing patient charts in advance of scheduled appointments, identifying care gaps, and ensuring required labs, screenings, and documentation are prepared.

•    Greet and prepare patients for visits, including taking and recording vital signs and medical histories.

•    Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness for patient care.

•    Assist physicians and other licensed providers during examinations and minor procedures.

•    Perform point of care testing including glucose, urinalysis, A1C, Rapid Flu, Strep, and other testing in accordance with protocols.

•    Perform and document imaging results, ensuring accurate upload and timely communication of results to providers.

•    Provide patient support during discharge by reinforcing provider instructions related to follow up appointments, referrals, and ordered labs.

•    Collect specimens including blood, urine, and swabs following established procedures.

•    Sterilize medical instruments and equipment and maintain required sterilization and infection control logs.

•    Follow standard precautions, OSHA requirements, and Department of Health infection prevention standards.

•    Answer phones, take messages, and route communication appropriately

Documentation and Health Records

•    Manage patient charts and electronic health records using ECW with accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality

•    Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies

•    Document clinical activities, test results, and procedures according to organizational and regulatory requirements.

•    Log and track emergency room referrals in the ER administration log to support quality assurance and follow up.


Teamwork and Professional Conduct

•    Collaborate with team members to support patient flow and clinic efficiency.

•    Participate in huddles, meetings, and required trainings.

•    Perform other duties as assigned to support clinical operations

•    May be required to work at multiple sites based on operational needs


Status: Union, Non Exempt

May be required to work at multiple locations based on the needs of the organization


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    High School Diploma

2.    Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program 

3.    Medical Assistant Certification

4.    BLS Certification required

5.    Excellent communication, organizational and multitasking skills

6.    Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and confidentiality 

7.    Bilingual Spanish or Creole preferred
