Role overview:
- Perform routine and specialized painting and related work to maintain the condition and appearance of MSK buildings and facilities.
- Assess each assignment and identify the equipment, tools, supplies, and materials needed to complete the work.
- Prepare surfaces and work areas by removing old finishes, smoothing surfaces, and repairing holes, scratches, and other imperfections.
- Tape and sand gypsum board to prepare surfaces for painting and finishing.
- Apply paint, varnish, stain, enamel, lacquer, wallpaper, and decorative finishes to walls, woodwork, floors, fixtures, and furniture.
- Select premixed paint or mix paint to achieve the appropriate color and finish.
- Assist with tiling, masonry, demolition, and other related assignments as needed.
- Respond to customer questions and requests with courtesy, integrity, and a strong service-oriented approach.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work environment.
- Ensure tools, equipment, supplies, and materials are used accurately and maintained in good condition.
- Follow all institutional, departmental, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Participate as a member of the Fire Brigade when required.
- Document time worked, work-order status, and supplies needed for each assignment.
- Provide support and coverage for additional departmental needs as assigned.
Key qualifications:
- Sufficient painting and trade knowledge to complete routine and non-routine assignments with minimal direction.
- Experience with surface preparation, painting, finishing, and related repair work.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate optimally in English.
- Ability to understand basic trade diagrams.

- Strong attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality work.
- Professional and courteous customer service.
- Effective organization, teamwork, and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures and accurately use tools, materials, and personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Flexibility to adjust the work schedule based on institutional and departmental needs.
Additional Information:
- Location: 1275 York Ave Main Campus
- Schedule: Full-Time 7am to 3pm. Weekends and overnights as needed. Must be flexible
