We are building a team that is energized by growth, motivated by excellence, and excited to help shape what comes next.

About the Role

Petite Plume is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to serve as a key partner and primary backup to the Accounting Manager. In a lean, growing finance and accounting organization, this role will independently own significant areas of the monthly and annual close, support accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthen controls and process documentation, and help scale accounting operations across Petite Plume's e-commerce and wholesale channels.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is process-oriented, proactive, and comfortable investigating and resolving nonroutine issues, combining strong accounting judgment with a continuous-improvement mindset while preserving accuracy, confidentiality, auditability, and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Close and Financial Reporting

  • Independently own assigned areas of the monthly and annual close, from source data through journal entries, reconciliations, and review-ready supporting schedules.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and aging items, resolving root causes on a timely basis.
  • Prepare account-level variance analyses and preliminary results, proactively flagging unusual trends, errors, risks, and process-improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain assigned close checklists and deadlines, escalating issues early when they could affect reporting accuracy or timing.
  • Serve as primary backup to the Accounting Manager, developing the capability to execute core close responsibilities during absences.

Retail and E-Commerce Accounting

  • Reconcile revenue, cash receipts, and merchant settlements across e-commerce, wholesale, and payment platforms, accounting for returns, refunds, discounts, chargebacks, fees, and revenue cutoff.
  • Support inventory and COGS accounting, including reconciliations, reserves, landed costs, freight, duties and tariffs, physical counts, and period-end cutoff.
  • Support cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, payroll, corporate card, and T&E accounting as assigned.

Controls, Processes, and Systems

  • Identify control gaps and process inefficiencies; help implement scalable solutions — including automation — that improve accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across T&E, AP, AR, and cash-application workflows.
  • Support accounting-system implementations, integrations, master-data maintenance, and data-validation efforts as needed.

Audit, Compliance, and Team Support

  • Own assigned audit schedules and documentation, responding to external auditor requests accurately and promptly.
  • Support tax, regulatory, and other compliance activities in coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting analyses and support special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful ownership of month-end close and general ledger processes.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries, performing complex balance sheet reconciliations, and independently investigating nonroutine accounting issues.
  • Strong Excel skills, including reconciling and analyzing high-volume financial data.
  • Strong ERP/accounting-systems aptitude — especially NetSuite — with the ability to learn new platforms and troubleshoot data or integration issues.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to manage competing priorities without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and comfort operating in a lean, hands-on environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in retail, apparel, consumer products, or e-commerce.
  • Experience with inventory, COGS, high-volume revenue, and payment-processor accounting.
  • Experience with Shopify, Concur, Bill.com, or similar systems.
  • CPA (or progress toward), or prior public accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting ERP implementations.

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000
