FOX Business is looking for a Senior Assignment Editor to join our team at the assignment desk in New York. As the Senior Assignment Editor, you have excellent editorial judgement and will supervise the NY assignment desk’s newsgathering efforts to support reporter and show teams. You will be a lead-by-example employee holding a daily position on the assignment desk with the additional responsibility of working with the Director of the FBN News Desk in designing systems, planning for major coverage events, improving communication, and guiding other desk personnel when it comes to keeping up on daily news developments. You must be an organized, motivated, curious individual with strong logistical and editorial skills and understand sourcing, fact-checking, balancing and vetting of editorial information.
You are proactive, work well with other managers, and need limited guidance in communicating and guiding the assignment desk and reporting teams in an ever-changing news environment. You are comfortable in a decision-making position, familiar with all positions on the assignment desk, and will serve as the main fill-in for the News Desk Director.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the VP of News Coverage and Director of the FBN News Desk with coverage decisions and scheduling, remaining reachable outside of normal office hours in a 24/7 news environment
Lead by example, and provide guidance to the full assignment desk on breaking and developing coverage
Mentor and develop staff including Assignment Editors, Desk Assistants, and Interns
Reach out to the management team to flag breaking news and provide a plan of action and coverage for live broadcast
Pitch ideas on improving newsroom systems and efficiencies, as well as story ideas and original reporting that is on-brand
Collaborate with assignment editors and desk assistants to ask the right questions when it comes to assigning, moving, and adjusting crew coverage to keep the network competitive
Collaborate with newsroom managers and newsgathering producers in planning and adjusting coverage as news breaks
Facilitate effective communication between the desk, reporter teams, and shows
Monitor minute-by-minute editorial, checking the accuracy and sourcing of reporting
Assist the Satellite and Crew Desks in prioritizing which events should be routed to New York and allocating our resources appropriately
Assist during large scale planning events and help to arrange our unilateral coverage responsibilities
Ahead of major events, assist in drafting concise coverage plans, setting up proper control room communication procedures, and distributing information to field, show, and network personnel
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
Experience in a newsroom and/or with producing in the field or for a television newscast
Exceptional logistical, editorial, and writing skills, with the ability to recognize stories with high potential for compelling television
Strong understanding of business news
Excellent organizational and supervisory skills as well as the ability to create an environment that fosters teamwork
Attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize daily, especially in breaking news situations
Must be flexible and willing to jump in whenever news breaks, including hours outside of usual shift, including weekends

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $74,000.00-104,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
