KPF, a global architecture practice headquartered in New York City, is seeking a Senior Technical Designer in New York City. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Senior Designers, to translate conceptual designs into fully coordinated, buildable solutions while mentoring junior team members and supporting project leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

Technical Design & Documentation

  • Lead the development of detailed design packages from schematic design through construction documentation.
  • Produce and oversee high-quality technical drawings, specifications, and detailing using BIM tools.
  • Develop and resolve complex architectural details and building systems integration.
  • Ensure coordination across disciplines including structural, MEP, façade, and specialty consultants.

Project Delivery & Coordination

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on schedules, deliverables, and quality control.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, zoning, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead preparation and review of construction documents and specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership on projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to firm standards across all documentation packages.

Construction Administration

  • Conduct site visits, review shop drawings, and respond to RFIs.
  • Monitor construction progress and maintain quality control.
  • Resolve technical issues during construction with practical solutions.

Design Integration

  • Collaborate with Senior Designers to translate conceptual design into technically sound and buildable solutions.
  • Contribute to material selection and technical strategies.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and oversee the work of junior and intermediate staff.
  • Promote best practices and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or related field
  • 10+ years of professional experience in architectural technical design
  • Advanced proficiency in BIM/CAD tools (Revit required)
  • Strong knowledge of construction documentation and detailing
  • Expertise in building codes and regulatory requirements
  • Experience across all project phases including construction administration
  • Strong coordination, communication, and leadership skills
  • Professional licensure and LEED accreditation preferred


 

Work Environment:

This position requires you to be in person in our New York office 5 days per week.

Pay Range:

$100,000.00 - $115,000.00 Annual
