The challenges SDEs solve for at Amazon are big and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products around the world. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years.
About the team
About the Simulations Team
The Simulations team owns What-If Billing Service (WIBS), within AWS Bill Generation. WIBS lets customers model and estimate billing outcomes before they commit — the engine behind answering "what would this cost?" at AWS scale.
We're at an inflection point. We're re-platforming WIBS onto Horizon, our next-generation architecture, to significantly improve scalability and reliability. In parallel, we're onboarding a major new customer, directly onto that new architecture. That means the engineer joining us will work across two of the most impactful problems a team can have at once:
modernizing a foundational service and standing up a new customer on it — shaping the target-state design rather than just maintaining what exists.
You'll join a team of five engineers with deep ownership of the billing simulation domain. As an L5, you'll own significant components of the Horizon migration end to end, drive projects to completion with limited guidance, and have real influence on architectural decisions as we build for the next order of magnitude of scale. Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred Qualifications: - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
