The Place:

Nestled in the heart of SoHo at The Mercer, Sartiano’s combines Italian heritage and fare with a modern fine dining experience. Sartiano’s was created by prominent lifestyle architect, Scott Sartiano, with culinary direction from three-time James Beard award winner Chef Alfred Portale.


The Role:

The Sommelier is responsible for assisting guests in the wine and beverage experience and also is supporting a cohesive dining experience by working with and alongside the Captains, Bartenders, and Management. This position actively embodies, inspires, & elevates hospitality. We are seeking individuals who have great communication skills, strong work ethic, passion for hospitality, commitment to excellence, who understand the importance of teamwork. They will assist the Wine Director in training staff on wine knowledge and service standards to deliver an exceptional fine dining experience that enhances guest satisfaction and beverage sales.


Responsibilities:

  • Drive beverage revenue by assisting guests with selections, suggesting pairings, and delivering elevated tableside wine service

  • Assist the Wine Director with daily inventory counts, organizing deliveries, restocking floor cellars, and proper bottle storage conditions

  • Partner closely with Captains, the bar team, and management to ensure seamless service, maintain accurate inventory, and lead pre-shift beverage education

  • Assist with changing menu pages in wine lists, other duties as assigned by management team


Qualifications:

  • 2 to 5 years working in upscale or fine dining restaurant environments

  • Expert knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, vintages, with a focus on Italian wines

  • Expert knowledge of professional wine service, including presenting, opening, decanting, and serving wines according to fine dining standards

  • Warm customer service, deep attention to detail, and strong communication

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long shifts and lift wine cases up to 50 pounds
