ABOUT SAS
The Shirley Aninias School is a private, 12-month, ABA-based special education program for neurodiverse students ages 4–13+. A subset of our students are twice-exceptional (2e), and growing our expertise to serve them is a school priority.

THE ROLE
A curriculum-focused instructional leadership role built around three things: developing curriculum, selecting the right programs and materials, and building the assessment systems that track student progress. Ideal for a curriculum builder who can adapt rigorous instruction for special education learners and help SAS deepen its 2e capability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Curriculum Development

  • Design and refine standards-aligned curriculum across ELA, math, science, social studies, and life skills
  • Build scope-and-sequence maps that let students accelerate in areas of strength while supported where they need it
  • Embed enrichment alongside remediation, especially for 2e learners
Curriculum Selection

  • Evaluate, pilot, and recommend evidence-based programs (Orton-Gillingham, Edmark, Singapore Math, Math in Focus, DTT)
  • Monitor implementation fidelity and give teachers the tools to deliver programs well
Assessment & Progress Tracking

  • Build and run the school's benchmark system (baseline, formative, periodic)
  • Administer and interpret academic assessments (Brigance, Woodcock-Johnson, IXL, i-Ready, STAR, AIMSweb, DIBELS)
  • Partner with the BCBA team on ABA skill assessments (VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, AFLS) and CR LiftEd
  • Turn data into next steps and keep progress aligned with IEP goals
Mentorship

  • Serve as the go-to resource for teaching strategies
  • Mentor and coach teachers through modeling, co-planning, and feedback
  • Lead professional development and maintain a shared library of strategies
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required

  • Master's in Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field
  • NYS certification in Special Education or School Building Leadership (SBL)
  • 6+ years teaching in special education, with curriculum development experience
  • Experience building curriculum, selecting materials, and managing assessment systems
  • Strong command of progress monitoring, data analysis, and educational assessment tools
  • Knowledge of special education law (IDEA, ADA, Section 504)
Preferred

  • Experience with, or genuine interest in developing, 2e instruction
  • Familiarity with the programs and assessment tools listed above
BENEFITS
Matching 401(k), health/dental/vision, expense account, commuter benefits, generous leave, and ongoing professional development.
