Smith Engineering is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the New York Metro area. You will split your time between our Manhattan office and various customer sites.

Your Role

We are seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to function as a Project Manager, designing large-scale cooling systems, including selecting equipment, performing calculations, and coordinating with clients and other engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee the entire project lifecycle, ensuring seamless communication and successful outcomes.

  • Technical Design: Perform cooling and heat load calculations; Design, analyze, inspect, perform field testing, and troubleshoot engineered systems for central energy plants

  • Coordination: Collaborate with clients, architects, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration, ensuring all project requirements are met.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to Smith Engineering standards complying with building codes and standards; Assist in the production of construction documents, including specifications.

  • Client Relations: Build and maintain strong client relationships through direct communication and by presenting design options and progress reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline followed by 6+ years of experience working with HVAC projects including central plants

  • Ability to navigate a mechanical room and perform field surveys of piping systems

  • Experience performing Basic Engineering calculations along with AutoCAD; 3D modeling software preferred

  • Working knowledge of DOB now and NYC Department of Buildings processes and requirements

  • Experience assisting with construction administration and project management

  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written, along with troubleshooting and problem solving-skills

  • Technical expertise in basic building systems knowledge

  • Must be located within 50 miles of New York City.
