WhatĀ You’llĀ DoĀ 

As aĀ Senior Manager on our State & Local Tax (SALT) team, you will lead complexĀ direct tax (income/franchise)Ā engagements forĀ investment funds, private equity, hedge funds, and asset management clients.Ā You’llĀ serve as a trusted advisor on multi-state tax matters, delivering strategic compliance, consulting, and structuring solutions with a strong emphasis onĀ New York state taxation and Tri-State tax matters.Ā 

Are you an experienced state and local tax professional with deepĀ expertiseĀ in direct (income/franchise) tax and a passion for delivering high-impact consulting and planning solutions? As aĀ Senior ManagerĀ on ourĀ SALTĀ team, you will take ownership of complex state income tax engagements for investment companies, management companies, and other sophisticated client structures. In this role, you will lead strategic SALT consulting and planning initiatives, drive technical analysis from structuring through compliance, and serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the direct tax space—while mentoring team members and contributing to practice growth.Ā 

SALT Strategy & ComplianceĀ 

  • Lead and manage complex state income and franchise tax consulting and compliance engagements, including multi-state apportionment, nexus analysis, and entityĀ structuring.Ā 

  • Advise onĀ state tax implications for investment partnerships, funds, andĀ managementĀ company structures.Ā 

  • Develop and implement state income tax planning strategies, including pass-through entity (PTE) tax elections, credit and incentive analysis, and state-specific filing positions.Ā 

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert on direct SALT matters, with a particular emphasis onĀ New York state taxĀ (required).Ā 

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across keyĀ jurisdictionsĀ andĀ provideĀ strategic guidance to clients and internal teams.Ā 

Client ExperienceĀ 

  • Serve asĀ primaryĀ relationship lead for SALT engagements, delivering proactive, high-quality consulting and planning advice.Ā 

  • Build trusted-advisor relationships by understanding clients' operations, structures, and state tax risk areas.Ā 

  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations on complex multi-state issues tailored to each client's business.Ā 

  • Collaborate across service lines—including federal tax, funds, and M&A teams—for seamless, integrated service delivery.Ā 

Team Leadership & Practice GrowthĀ 

  • Review work of managers, seniors, and staff; provide coaching, feedback, and technical guidance.Ā 

  • Mentor and develop team members to build the next generation of SALT leaders.Ā 

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment.Ā 

  • Contribute to business development and help grow the firm's direct SALT practice.Ā 

Who You Are

QualificationsĀ 

  • CPA,Ā EAĀ or JDĀ required.Ā 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.Ā 

  • 8+ years of progressive SALT experience with a strong focus onĀ direct (income/franchise) tax—not Sales & Use.Ā 

  • New York state taxĀ expertiseĀ required.Ā 

  • ExperienceĀ advisingĀ investment companies, funds, or complex entity structures strongly preferred.Ā 

  • Background at a Big 4 or large public accounting firm preferred.Ā 

  • Proven leadership, communication, and client management skills.Ā 

  • InterestĀ in business development and growingĀ a SALTĀ practice.Ā 

  • ProficiencyĀ in tax research tools and Microsoft Office.Ā 

  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.Ā

Estimated Base Range: $110,000-$210,000*

*Base compensation offered to candidates are determined based on factors such as candidate's relevant skillset, experience, licensure, and certifications, as well as job responsibilities, geography, market considerations, and organizational needs.
