STV is seeking a Traction Power Engineering Specialist to join our Systems Department in our New York City office. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex electrified rail and transit infrastructure projects, supporting the design, construction, and delivery of traction power systems.Â
This position is ideal for an engineering professional who brings both technical design experience and hands-on construction exposure, with a strong desire to continue developing within the traction power discipline.Â

Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Support the design and development of AC and DC traction power systems, including substations, power distribution systems, and grounding designsÂ
Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and reports in support of rail and transit projects Â
Perform basic drafting and design work using industry-standard software toolsÂ
Participate in field inspections, site assessments, and construction oversight activities for active rail and infrastructure environments Â
Supervise and coordinate construction crews, ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and project schedulesÂ
Support testing, commissioning, and system integration efforts during project deliveryÂ
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, systems, and construction management professionalsÂ
Assist in problem-solving and resolution of field issues during constructionÂ
Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of project progress and field conditionsÂ
Continuously learn and adopt new engineering tools, software platforms, and emerging technologiesÂ

Required QualificationsÂ
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred) Â
5–10 years of relevant experience in engineering, with exposure to construction environmentsÂ
Demonstrated construction experience, including fieldwork and coordination with contractorsÂ
Willingness and ability to work outdoors in active construction and rail environmentsÂ
Experience or interest in supervising field teams or construction crewsÂ
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project)Â
Basic experience in drafting/design tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar preferred)Â
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teamsÂ
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environmentÂ

Preferred QualificationsÂ
Experience with traction power systems, substations, or electrical infrastructure for rail/transit projectsÂ
Knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, NFPA, AREMA)Â Â
Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensureÂ
Interest in pursuing advanced education (Master’s degree) in Electrical EngineeringÂ
Experience with power system analysis or modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM)Â

Compensation Range:
