Job Description

Prepares and positions patients appropriately for ultrasonic examinations. Sets-up, operates and maintains ultrasonic diagnostic equipments.

Job Responsibility

  • * Operates ultrasonic diagnostic equipment to examine various parts of body such as pelvis, lower and upper abdomen (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, aorta, etc.), retroperitoneal area (kidneys, adrenals), heart, head, etc., pregnancy evaluation (fetal size, placenta, abnormalities, etc.).
  • * Prepares patients for ultrasonic examinations by determining necessary anatomical positioning of patients, in accordance with departmental policy.
  • * Sets up and operates various types of ultrasonic equipment.
    • Adjusts and operates controls to obtain correct exposure, in accordance with departmental regulations.
    • Loads and unloads film in cameras.
    • Makes exposures for each film, using proper film and identification for each patient.
  • * Provides technical guidance and assistance to staff, students and medical staff rotating through area.
  • * Maintains records and statistics of ultrasound examinations.
  • * Participates in research projects.
  • * Maintains inventory and orders supplies, as required.
  • * Maintains equipment in proper working order, makes minor adjustments, and requests repair service, as required.
  • * Assures high level of care for patients visiting department.
  • Performs related duties as required

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Graduated from an approved Ultrasound Program, required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification, required.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • Specialized in ultrasonic techniques and procedures, required. Ability to operate ultrasound equipment and obtain appropriate imaging of anatomical structures, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
