Position Summary
Ryan Specialty National Programs (NSP) provides industry-focused insurance solutions designed for niche markets across the United States. Our in-house underwriting teams have binding authority, deep industry expertise, and access to specialized carrier partners, allowing us to deliver tailored solutions for complex risks.The Security Guard Program is dedicated exclusively to security service providers, offering insurance solutions for both armed and unarmed security guard operations nationwide. Our clients protect commercial properties, financial institutions, residential communities, construction sites, healthcare and educational facilities, and government entities.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Underwriter who is excited to become a subject matter expert in a highly specialized and evolving market.
The Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, quoting, binding, and managing a portfolio of Security Guard insurance accounts. This individual will partner closely with retail agents, brokers, carrier partners, and internal stakeholders to drive profitable growth while delivering exceptional service.
This role is ideal for an underwriting professional who enjoys analyzing unique risks, building strong broker relationships, and becoming a trusted expert within a specialized program business.

What You'll Do
Underwriting & Risk Analysis
- Review new business, renewals, and endorsements for security guard and patrol service risks.
- Analyze exposures, loss history, operations, financial information, and risk characteristics.
- Determine pricing, terms, conditions, and coverage structures in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Exercise sound underwriting judgment to balance growth and profitability objectives.
- Issue quotations, bind coverage, and manage policy transactions within delegated authority.
Portfolio Management
- Manage and grow a profitable book of business.
- Monitor retention, rate adequacy, loss performance, and portfolio trends.
- Identify opportunities to expand accounts through additional coverages and product offerings.
- Participate in renewal strategy discussions and underwriting audits.
Agency & Broker Partnership
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail agents and brokerage partners.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on security guard industry risks and insurance solutions.
- Respond promptly to submissions, coverage questions, and underwriting inquiries.
- Support marketing initiatives, agency visits, and industry events as needed.
Collaboration
- Partner with leadership, carrier partners, and business development teams to achieve growth objectives.
- Work closely with underwriting assistants, operations, and service teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Assist in refining underwriting guidelines, processes, and program strategies.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.
- Experience underwriting casualty, package, workers' compensation, professional liability, or specialty insurance products.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to evaluate complex submissions and make sound underwriting decisions.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within E&S, MGA/MGU, program business, or specialty insurance markets.
- Knowledge of contractor, security services, staffing, government service contractor, or service-industry risks.
- Experience working with delegated underwriting authority.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, or CRIS.
- Prior broker-facing or agency-facing experience.

Licenses & Certifications
- State Property & Casualty license
- CPCU, ARM, AU, CRIS, or other insurance designations preferred.

The target salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 annually.The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
