Position Summary
An Associate Veterinary Technician provides support in all aspects of veterinary nursing, including but not limited to anesthesia, surgical nursing, and general practice. This role emphasizes direct patient care, anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparation, dental preparation, and equipment management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Duties
  •   Assist veterinarians and surgery techs with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery of surgical and dental patients.
  •   Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and sterile supplies for procedures.
  •   Assist veterinarians with intraoperative procedures and postoperative patient care.
  •   Administer medications and fluids under veterinary supervision.
  •   Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control standards.
  •   Ensure proper function of hospital equipment through maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all hospital equipment, including anesthetic and surgical equipment.
Operations & Administration
  •   Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records.
  •   Monitor surgical inventory and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels.
  •   Participate in staff meetings to review workflow and discuss patient care.
Qualifications
  •   Current licensure in the State of New York as LVT/CVT/RVT in good standing preferred, or enrolled in an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program
  •   5+ years of surgical or anesthesia-based experience preferred  Â
  •   Strong technical proficiency in anesthesia, radiology, dental prophylaxis, surgical nursing, and patient monitoring
  •   Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff in a clinical environment
