Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

Samaritan Daytop Village is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs.  

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) at Samaritan Daytop Village empowers clients from diverse backgrounds to discover their strengths, build job readiness, and secure meaningful employment through individual and group counseling. In this role, you will guide career planning, connect clients with vital community resources, and partner with state job liaisons and local businesses to create new employment pathways.  

We are seeking a dedicated professional with a Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, social work, mental health counseling or another related human services field, with a CRC or LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, strongly preferred 

The ideal candidate communicates clearly, understands substance use treatment modalities, and excels at building strong relationships with both clients and local employers. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group vocational counseling, both in-person and virtually, to help clients build job readiness and make informed career decisions. 
  • Conduct educational and vocational assessments to evaluate clients' work history, skills, and readiness for employment. 
  • Partner with state job development liaisons and local businesses to create new employment pathways and expand opportunities for clients. 
  • Help clients identify and pursue personalized career goals, assisting them with job placement and obtaining necessary identification. 
  • Coordinate and host regular presentations and networking events with community and workforce partners to support job matching and training enrollment. 
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality client records and reports in compliance with regulatory standards and confidentiality laws. 
  • Collaborate actively as a member of the vocational team during case reviews, staff meetings, and treatment planning sessions. 
  • Offer ongoing follow-up and post-placement support to help clients maintain employment and connect with transitional benefits.
  • Engage and build relationships with outside organizations to aid in job development opportunities for clients.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling, social work, mental health counseling or another related human services field, with a CRC or LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, strongly preferred 
  • At least three years of professional experience in vocational counseling, job placement, or workforce development with individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) 
  • Proven track record of conducting vocational assessments and facilitating individual or group job-readiness counseling 
  • Direct experience working within substance use disorder treatment modalities or similar client support systems 
  • Strong documentation skills, with experience writing formal vocational assessments and clinical progress notes 
  • Proficiency with industry-specific technology, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Background in building professional relationships with local employers, community resources, or state agencies 
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and compliance standards like HIPAA and 42 CFR preferred
  • Willingness to travel throughout the 5 boroughs, as needed, for partnership meetings or events

 

Additional Information 

This is a full-time exempt role with an annual salary of $82,000-$88,500 with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement.  

This role is located in Mott Haven, Bronx and has a schedule of Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, w/ 1 evening 11am-7pm and operates fully on-site.
