Overview

This is a hybrid role with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office. NY

 

 

First Citizens  Commercial Real Estate originates and underwrites senior secured real estate transactions. With deep market expertise, underwriting experience and industry relationships, the unit provides financing for single properties, property portfolios and loan portfolios.

 

Vice President / Director-level Portfolio Manager specializing in Commercial Real Estate lending with expertise in senior debt, construction, bridge, industrial, and retail lending. Proven ability to manage complex loan portfolios through comprehensive credit underwriting, portfolio surveillance, risk rating assessments, covenant compliance monitoring, and portfolio reviews. Skilled in negotiating loan amendments, waivers, and restructurings, while partnering closely with Relationship Managers, Credit, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure effective portfolio management and timely transaction execution. Strong track record of analyzing property performance, managing construction loan oversight, supporting regulatory and audit requirements, mentoring junior team members, and identifying emerging credit risks to maintain portfolio quality and performance.


Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the Bank’s credit policies, procedures and standards
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of the BU to participate in closing new loans and, for construction loans, monitoring construction progress
  • Prepare informative, concise, and accurate quarterly and annual reviews that include well-structured rationale to justify recommended regulatory rating and risk gradings, with appropriate performance analyses that support such rationale. The PM should be able to provide updated projections, if needed, based on well substantiated assumptions consistent with property performance trends and market dynamics.
  • Analyze the credit impact of a potential amendment, consent, waiver, extension of the Loan Agreement or lease approval requests. The PM will work collaboratively and be responsible to lead negotiation of terms and conditions in consultation with portfolio management leadership and relationship managers, engage counsel for document drafting, and manage internal credit approval for timely closing.
  • Monitor operating and financial metrics and covenant compliance for a portfolio of credits upon the receipt of relevant reporting items. The PM will be responsible for comparing performance against bank’s base underwriting and escalating any concerns to senior portfolio management staff.
  • Work with offshore analysts to monitor timeliness of borrower deliverables and accuracy of loan spreads.
  • Mentor junior portfolio management team members
  • Answer audit inquiries for internal and external credit exams
  • Coordinate with middle office and various internal/external stakeholders to process loan payments and cash management transactions
  • Requires learning and use of the Bank’s internal systems

Qualifications

VP Level:

 

Required:

 

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Credit Analysis, Credit Underwriting or Management OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Credit Analysis, Credit Underwriting or Management.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Familiarity with banking systems such as Salesforce, nCino, Moody’s Credit Lens
  • Exposure to key loan Commercial Real Estate Lending loan documents
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, think critically, exercise sound judgement, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and successfully manage time.
  • Team player who is able to establish effective working relationships with internal and external counterparties
  • 10+ years of banking experience
  • 7+ years of Commercial Real Estate experience
  • 7+ years of Commercial Real Estate experience with significant Portfolio Management 
  • Bridge Loans, Senior Secured, Construction, Multifamily, Industrial, Retail
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

The base pay for this position is generally between $135,000.00 and $175,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.

 

Director Level

 

Required:

 

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Credit Analysis, Credit Underwriting or Management OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Credit Analysis, Credit Underwriting or Management

 

Preferred:

 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, think critically, exercise sound judgement, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and successfully manage time.
  • Team player who is able to establish effective working relationships with internal and external counterparties
  • Director: 15+ years of banking experience 
  • Director: 10+ years of Commercial Real Estate experience
  • 7+ years of Commercial Real Estate experience with significant Portfolio Management 
  • Bridge Loans, Senior Secured, Construction, Multifamily, Industrial, Retail
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

 

The base pay for this position is generally between $175,000.00 and $220,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
