Educational Requirements: Â

Work Experience and Minimum Requirements:
- Prior experience as a Welder with a minimum of five (5) years in the Power Plant industry.
- Possession of Section IX ASME boiler and pressure vessel code certificate for at least five (5) years can be advantageous.
- Current and valid certifications in welding from New York Fire Department and other recognized institutions (e.g. American Welding Society)
- OSHA 10/30-hour safety training card is required.
- Experience with the operation of equipment in the Power Plant and outside buildings.Â
- The ability to learn, follow instructions and exercise good judgment in performing a variety of tasks involving equipment in the power plant and outside buildings.Â
- Ability to use hand tools in assembling projects such as piping, pump stands platforms and other items needed in power plant and building maintenance.
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, squares, calipers etc.) and other items needed in power plant and building maintenance.
- Strong technical knowledge of blueprints and welding diagrams.
- Ability to handle and use various power tools, including, but not limited to, electrical grinders, electrical wire wheel, and drills.
- Possess valid driver’s license (NY, NJ, CT, or PA) – no exceptions

The welder also requires possession of license and certifications as per regulatory guidelines. Continued education and certification renewal are often required to keep up with evolving welding technologies and methods.

Testing:

- Drug screening, as permitted by, and consistent with, applicable law, upon hiring.
- Practical assessment.
- Respiratory Fit Test - Once in the position, must be able to wear a half face/full face respirator at all times (subject to any accommodations required by applicable law).

Persons performing service in this position classification may routinely exert up to 75 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work will involve regular walking or standing for extended periods of time. It may involve stooping or bending. Handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
