POSITION: Human Resources Assistant 

REPORTS TO: Human Resources Generalist

STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt 

RANGE: $20.00 per hour

SCHEDULE: Monday-Thursday, Five (5) Hour Shift per day, Onsite 

Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for a Human Resources Assistant to join our team. The Law School’s size, vibrant employee and student population, and commitment to training the next generation of lawyers and promoting social justice, will offer a candidate the opportunity to develop and diversify practical skills and participate firsthand in operating a successful educational institution. 

Reporting to the Human Resources Generalist, the Human Resources Assistant will play a vital role in projects within the department and administrative functions. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive professional looking to grow their career in Human Resources. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records (both digital and physical)
  • Complete and manage I-9 verification forms for part time employees 
  • Process RA/TA student employment forms and onboarding documents
  • Assist with job postings, resume reviews, and scheduling interviews
  • Assist with drafting offer letters and initiating background checks
  • Assist with welcome packets, new hire orientation, and orientation schedules
  • Assist with compliance tracking, i.e. Harassment training, hybrid work agreements, etc.
  • Respond to requests for employment verification from personnel and outside parties in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provides customer service support to employees
  • Provide administrative support within the HR team and complete projects as assigned

Required: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, currently pursuing Bachelors preferred
  • 1–2 years of experience in office administration and customer service; interest and/or experience in Human Resources preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and vendors

Preferred: 

  • Human Resources experience
  • Microsoft Office experience

Remote capabilities:

  • This position is not eligible for a hybrid/remote schedule, as duties must be performed on-site

Physical demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times
