What You’ll Do

As a Recreation Specialist for HELP USA's new Brooklyn, New York, family shelter, you will work under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and lead school-age children living in our shelter in developmentally appropriate activities. You’ll also participate in community outreach to obtain in-kind donations, service linkages, and other resources for the children in our program.  

Some of the activities you’ll lead are:

  • STEM projects.

  • Arts and Crafts.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Homework help and education support.

  • Development of life skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all participants in recreational activities.

  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

You’re a great fit for this role if:

  • You are creative, responsible, patient, kind, and caring.

  • Proven experience in supporting children with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities through inclusive, developmentally suitable, and trauma-informed methods. ABA-informed experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Enjoy working with children.  

  • Have strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Have a valid US driver’s license.

  • Have an Associate’s degree.

Compensation

Actual compensation will not be less than the applicable minimum wage, prevailing wage, or exempt salary requirements under federal, state and local laws.
