Job Title: Program Cook- Striver House

Job Description: 

The responsibility of the Cook is to prepare congregate meals for any one of our nine congregate meal programs at our eight service locations in Manhattan and Bronx. He/she reports to the Lead Chef.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining the kitchen in a sanitary and safe conditions.
  • Prepare, cook and serve food according to recommended instruction.
  • Make local food purchases when necessary.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and areas according to Health Department ordinances.
  • Maintain inventory of food and household supplies on hand and as needed.

Qualifications/Criteria:

  • Must possess Food Handling Certification.
  • Previous related experience in food preparation.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to follow written menus, recipes and work schedules.
  • Ability to keep simple inventory of supplies on hand.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with other staff and residents.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
