Position Purpose:

Oversees network security engineers, as well as monitoring and confirming the performance of the network security systems. The role will ensure appropriate levels of network security controls are managed within the organization. This will involve working alongside other internal teams and external vendors, to ensure best practice and ongoing compliance. This individual will be responsible for guiding and coaching the network security team to evolve and support the network platform and infrastructure.

  • Lead and grow an Innovation, Research & Advanced Development (IRAD) organization focused on the future of network and endpoint security at Centene.
  • Drive forward‑looking research while ensuring delivery of production‑ready, automation‑first solutions.
  • Bring a strong DevOps mindset with hands‑on experience in CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automated deployment models.
  • Consistently favor automation over manual processes to reduce risk and improve scale and reliability.
  • Expect solutions to be repeatable, testable, observable, and suitable for real production environments.
  • Leverage AI heavily to accelerate research, design, development, testing, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Encourage AI‑augmented engineering practices so teams focus on intent, validation, and guardrails rather than repetitive manual coding.
  • Balance rapid innovation with disciplined production deployment through CI/CD and formal release processes.
  • Enforce clear Definitions of Done, automated testing, regression validation, and production monitoring.
  • Ensure teams deliver complete, installable production packages including code, automation, and documentation.
  • Protect strategic engineering work from unnecessary reactive or ad‑hoc interruptions.
  • Lead with a positive, forward‑looking mindset that helps teams see purpose, opportunity, and impact in their work.
  • Motivate and energize engineers around the opportunity to modernize and shape the future of security technology at Centene.
  • Create an environment where curiosity, experimentation, and pride in engineering craft are encouraged.
  • Translate technical ideas and research into actionable roadmaps and operationally realistic outcomes.
  • Build trust with stakeholders by delivering solutions that are safe, scalable, predictable, and well‑governed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related experience.

Or equivalent experience acquired through accomplishments of applicable knowledge, duties, scope and skill reflective of the level of this position.

Pay Range: $102,900.00 - $190,500.00 per year

Centene offers a comprehensive benefits package including: competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible approach to work with remote, hybrid, field or office work schedules.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law, including full-time or part-time status.  Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may be subject to program eligibility.
