Job Description:

Parsons New York City office is now hiring for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer experienced in underground design and construction to join our team.  The successful candidate will work on design and construction of complex underground structures including foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, shafts, underpinning and support of excavation systems for transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical and geo-structural design tasks for structures in soils and rock.

  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical subsurface investigations.

  • Prepare Geotechnical Data Reports, Geotechnical Baseline Reports, and foundation design reports.

  • Perform deep and shallow foundation design

  • Perform slope stability and seepage analyses

  • Perform liquefaction evaluations

  • Perform support of excavation design in soil and rock formations

  • Perform 2D and 3D geotechnical ground-structure interaction finite element analyses for foundations, shafts, tunnels, and excavation support systems

  • Prepare design calculations and engineering reports

  • Plan geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring plans

  • Perform construction impact assessment investigations

  • Prepare and review specifications

  • QA/QC of design calculations and engineering reports

  • Develop engineering drawings and sketches using Microstation and AutoCAD in collaboration with Drafters/designers.

  • Attend meetings and site visits and provide engineering services during construction

What Minimum Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • 4-year of Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and a Master’s degree in geotechnical or Structural engineering

  • 10 years of related work experience

  • Professional Engineer registration in NYS

  • Efficient in modeling and designing underground structures using 2D and 3D finite element analyses, such as Plaxis.

  • Familiarity with standard geotechnical manuals and publications.

  • Local resident of NYC metro area

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Working knowledge of industry standard geotechnical and geo-structural design manuals

  • Familiarity with NYC area local geology and subsurface conditions

  • Familiarity with MTA, NYSDOT, NJDOT, NYCBC, NYSBC requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
