The Neighborhood House has transformed our institutional food services to a farm-to-table model so that our clients across programs can eat, access and learn to use healthy, fresh, locally sourced and sustainable foods to improve their overall health and well-being. We serve 400,000 meals annually to clients throughout our programs including three meals a day in our Women's Mental Health Shelter, Early Childhood Center and Older Adult Centers.

Hourly Rate: $28.60/Hour

Reporting to the Chef Manager, the Cook, is an integral member of our Food Services Team, and is responsible for ensuring that the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s Food Services meets its goal of providing nutritious, quality meals for clients and, when appropriate, staff and other members of the Neighborhood House community. The Cook will perform duties for our two Older Adult Centers, Early Childhood Center, Women’s Mental Health Shelter and CARE Program. The Food Service Worker must be flexible and adaptable to change to support the evolving and fluid nature of the Neighborhood House’s Food Services Department.

The Cook will:

• Prepare meals accurately and according to the menu and reflect the appropriate quantity.
• Ensure recipe compliance, consistency and production ensuring quality assurance.
• Taste all foods prepared prior to service to ensure quality and proper preparation.
• Efficiently support the kitchen team in all aspects of ingredient and meal preparation.
• Prepare, portion, and serve meals to clients while maintaining clean and sanitary kitchen,food preparation, and serving areas.
• Package prepared meals for transport ensuring proper temperature during transport.
• Oversee that transported meals are set up and made ready for service.
• Ensure that safety guidelines in the kitchen are followed at all times.
• Familiarize themself with food service needs for the day and upcoming days to ensure that all production needs are met.
• Make certain that proper sanitation and cleaning schedules are followed.
• Ensure proper storage of leftovers and record food usage accurately for weekly inventory.
• Oversee accurate record-keeping of food production and temperature logs daily.
• Maintain compliance with all food handling procedures, including those of the Department of Health as well as those of the Neighborhood House.
• Complete all other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Chef Manager and Sous Chef.

Hours of Operation:

The Cook is willing and able to work a fast-paced schedule that will include evenings and weekends and some holidays given our 7-day a week operating schedule and the expansive food services needs of our clients. This position is Per-Diem, meaning that the scheduled hours will vary with a maximum of 20 hours per week. Given the expansive food services operational schedule, we are actively looking for candidates willing to work shifts between the hours of 6am and 7pm daily.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED plus a minimum of two years of food service experience. A certificate of Food Protection and Sanitation from the New York City Department of Health. The Cook must be willing to participate in trainings, take initiative and be able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
