STUDENT ASSISTANT SPECIALIST - Communications
The MA, Media Studies program is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Assistant Specialists to support the program’s current, alumni, and prospective student outreach. As designer and editing assistant for the MediaLog monthly newsletter tailored to the MA, Media Studies community that includes current students, faculty, staff, and alumni, coordinating as well on social media production. The Student Assistant Specialist will work closely withthe MA, Program Director to solicit and aggregate news items, copy edit, manage design elements, and maintain an organized template for delivery to the AMT operations team for and deployment of the newsletter in a timely manner. They additionally send email blast reminders and maintain a social media presence via instagram and additional platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Student Assistant Specialist will:
Maintain a calendar for regular beginning-of-month publication of MediaLog newsletter.
Be point person for any student-related news and events
Maintain regular contact with with all student organizations and solicit updates
Manage, in collaboration with the program director, the newsletter submission form.
Share select submissions with the AMT newsletter aggregator.
Design visual elements for publication.
Collaborate on creating norms for a publication style guide.
Create social media content according to M&C guidelines ready for approval by faculty Director.Â
Edit submitted event announcements in keeping with a MediaLog style guide.
Organize and maintain the newsletter archives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current student in good standing at The New School.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated interest in writing and publishing.
Solid technical skills in web publishing and social media applications.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in communications work.
Prior experience in news writing and/or digital publishing.
Design skills for print and digital media.
ELIGIBILITY & ENROLLMENT
In order to be eligible a student position in the MA, Media Studies at The New School, students must meet all the following eligibility requirements in the semester for which they would like to apply:
 Must be a current graduate level student.
Must be within the time limit for attaining your degree.
Must be a continuing student and have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Must not have more than 33% of attempted course credits as incompletes.
Must file new hire paperwork form at the University if you are a first time student employee (if selected for a position). International students must complete foreign national forms.
All selected students must be authorized to work in the United States and must obtain a social security number.
All students must adhere to the 20 hours per week work limit. The 20 hours includes the total amount of time for all on-campus jobs.
Federal regulations limit international students to no more than 20 hours of employment per week. All students must have a social security number before obtaining employment.
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position can work remotely for the majority of tasks. Some new student events are in-person.Â
SALARY AND HOURS
This position is 5 hours per week during the academic semester @ $20/hour . Â
