Overview

We are seeking an experienced, tech-savvy Part-Time Japanese Language Instructor to lead our online courses tailored specifically for middle and high school students. In this role, you will shape engaging, high-impact learning experiences that resonate with a teen audience, helping them build both linguistic skills and cultural connection.

Responsibilities

  • Teach online teen courses following the established curriculum syllabus.

  • Create compelling supplemental teaching materials tailored to the dynamic pacing of a teenage classroom.

  • Align with fellow instructors and maintain regular, timely communication with the Education & Family Department staff regarding schedules and course updates.

  • Participate in instructor meetings before and after each semester to discuss program enhancements and share insights.

  • Design and introduce new theme- or content-based courses aligned with student interests.

Schedule & Hours

  • Two 10-week semesters (Fall and Spring) and one 5-week semester (Summer).

  • Classes meet once per week for 60 minutes, starting at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

  • Instructors may have the option to teach multiple courses per semester based on programmatic needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an MA in a relevant field is preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching the Japanese language in a structured classroom setting.

  • Proficient in video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams) and digital presentation tools. Experience using digital tools for writing instruction (e.g.,iPad/ tablet and stylus, real-time annotation) is required.

  • Strong oral and written English communication skills.

  • Deep familiarity with modern language teaching methodologies; a passion for adopting innovative educational tech is a plus.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, green card holder, or possess a valid U.S. work permit. Out-of-state applicants are welcome to apply.
