Conducts moderate to high complexity testing on clinical specimens in the hospital blood bank laboratory, including but not limited to type-and-screens, cross match, blood compatibility, and antibody screening. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or one of the physical sciences – Biology, Chemistry
  • Minimum of six (6) years of laboratory testing experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Current NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Blood Bank Technologist, Specialist in Blood Banking, Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)- Preferred
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information System – Preferred
  • Must possess verbal and spatial ability, form perception, finger and manual dexterity and clerical ability.
  • Near visual acuity required for reading results from reports and viewing computer screens
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Ability to read computer screens, procedure manuals and other documents
  • Ability to hear doorbells, alarms, telephone, and other mechanical devices
  • Ability to pass a test for color blindness
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer skills
