About the Role

As a Project Engineer on our Engineering team, you’ll play a central role in advancing solar and distributed generation projects from early development through construction-ready design. Working closely with our Development, Construction, and third-party engineering teams, you’ll own the technical work that turns a project concept into a permitted, optimized, buildable system—driving accuracy, efficiency, and value at every stage.

What You’ll Own

  • Site Due Diligence – Coordinate and oversee environmental analysis, surveys, and geotechnical investigations; bid, negotiate, and manage contracts for third-party diligence work on active development projects.
  • Engineering Design – Review site data and produce civil, electrical, and structural design drawings using AutoCAD and Virto, independently or in collaboration with external engineers of record.
  • System Optimization – Iterate designs to identify the optimal equipment, layout, and system configuration that maximizes specific yield and overall project value.
  • Energy Modeling – Develop detailed energy models in PVSyst, incorporating 3D shading scenes, soiling calculations, site-specific losses, and carefully selected weather data.
  • Permitting & Construction Drawings – Oversee the development of permit and construction-level drawings across all disciplines, ensuring code compliance, AHJ and utility conformance, and alignment with Madison technical specifications.
  • Project Administration – Manage RFIs, submittals, bids, contracts, and budgets through Procore; drive value engineering opportunities across the full project lifecycle while keeping work within defined budget, schedule, and scope.

What Will Help You Succeed

(You don’t need to check every box, but here’s what will help you thrive.)

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; Electrical Engineering preferred, though Mechanical, Civil, and Energy Engineering backgrounds have also been successful in this role.
  • Experience – 3+ years designing and permitting photovoltaic construction projects, or comparable transferable experience in a related field.
  • Technical Skills – Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSyst (or equivalent energy modeling tools); familiarity with Procore or similar project management platforms.
  • Design Judgment – Ability to translate site due diligence findings into optimized, code-compliant designs across civil, electrical, and structural disciplines.
  • Mindset – Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed; comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and working efficiently within defined budgets and schedules.
  • Collaboration – Strong communicator who can lead technical meetings with clients, engineers, regulators, and consultants and hold third parties accountable to quality and timelines.
