Cytology Technologist

Job Description

Assists Cytology Pathologist with fine needle aspiration specimens. Prepares stains, mounts and labels slides. Participates in microscopic screening of cytology preparations. Observes and records tests results.

Job Responsibility

• * Prepares stains, mounts and labels slides.
• * Participates in Cytology conferences, Quality Assurance Program and quality control of the Laboratory.
• * Assists Cytology Pathologist with fine needle aspiration specimens.
• * Participates in microscopic screening of cytology preparations for the presence of carcinoma, related neoplasms and disease processes.
• * Correlates abnormal Cytology Laboratory findings and document the appropriate departmental records.
• * Maintains workflow and quality of work to assure timely accomplishments of assigned workload.
• * Observes test results, and records necessary data on laboratory report.
• * Maintains equipment.
• Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, required.Licensed by New York State Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or as appropriate to area of assignment), required.Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above, required.
