Job Title: Senior Manager, R&D – Electrical Engineering, NPD

Hologic’s Breast & Skeletal Health division is growing, and we’ve recently upgraded this role to a Senior Manager to reflect its increased scope and strategic importance. We’re seeking an experienced electrical engineering leader to direct the design and compliance of complex electro-mechanical systems that power our breast and skeletal health products.

 

About the Role

As the Senior Manager, R&D – Electrical Engineering, you will:

  • Lead the Electrical Engineering and Electrical Compliance functions, providing strategic direction and setting standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Guide the architecture, design, and troubleshooting of printed circuit assemblies, cable and harness design, power distribution, electrical schematics/PCBs, and compliance activities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our products and clinical use to inform next-generation product design and ensure sustained compliance and performance of current platforms.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with systems, mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and clinical teams to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative products.
  • Own technical oversight and review of your team’s work output, ensuring adherence to quality, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for design issues, using structured engineering approaches and data-driven decision-making.
  • Translate divisional strategy into executable plans, including team goals, project portfolios, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Standardize and improve engineering processes and documentation, ensuring robust project and change control, and complete, accurate drawings/specifications.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly on progress, risks, resource needs, and key metrics to stakeholders and R&D leadership.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team, including recruiting, onboarding, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to R&D leadership strategy, helping shape long-term product and technology roadmaps for the electrical function.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Engineering or related technical field strongly preferred).
  • Master’s degree preferred; PhD is a plus.

Experience

  • Typically 10+ years of relevant engineering experience with a Bachelor’s,
    or 7+ years with a Master’s, or 5+ with a PhD.
  • Proven technical leadership experience, including leading teams and/or other managers in complex product development.
  • Experience in medical devices or other regulated, high-reliability industries strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong command of electrical engineering principles and application in complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical and systems design (mechanisms, control systems, plastics, metals, fabrication processes).
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design, and develop complex electrical systems from concept through launch.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical device standards and quality systems (e.g., IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA/CE).
  • Experience with Design for Compliance, Cost, Reliability, Serviceability, and Manufacture.
  • Excellent project and portfolio management skills; able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to quickly distill complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across functions and at senior levels.
  • Proven people leadership: attracting and developing talent, mentoring, driving engagement, and managing performance.
  • Ability to manage and develop other managers and senior technical staff

The annualized base salary range for this role is $146,200 - $243,700  and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
