Description

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting Lead Teachers with the care and education of children who are enrolled at the Child Learning Center. This position will assist children in multiple learning environments. The Assistant Teacher reports to the Child Learning Center Director.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must always supervise children
  • Develop children’s emotional, spiritual, physical and social wellbeing 
  • Must meet the needs of each child in a timely manner
  • Relate to the children with courtesy, respect, acceptance and patience
  • Teach children social skills by modeling and nurturing good judgment and self-control
  • Assist in teaching age-appropriate academic curriculum and encourage learning through play
  • Provide personal space for each child
  • Maintain engaging, inviting and organized classroom appearance
  • Keep counters, closets, cupboards, drawers and room clean and orderly 
  • Assist in planning, posting, and following classroom monthly activities
  • Assist with constructing and following a daily schedule
  • Relate to parents in a professional manner, understand and meet their needs and requests


Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Child Development ECE preferred
  • Participate in at least 24 hours of training annually in understanding children and job performance
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification  

EXPERIENCE:

  • One year classroom experience preferred


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to pull, push, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, move, carry children and equipment
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
  • Maintain a good attendance record

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typical nursery and classroom environment
  • Daily transition from indoor to outside in varying weather conditions year-round


EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard nursery, school and office equipment, e.g. infant swing, bottle warmer, laminator, labeler, computer, print/copy/fax/scanner, calculator, telephone, video gaming system, etc.


OTHER:

  • Must work well with others, as a team and according to Romans 16:17, must not cause dissension, difficulties and divisions
  • Must maintain a good attendance record
  • Because of the wide range of personal contact with ministry leaders within and outside the organization, this position requires considerable diplomacy, maturity, and excellent communication skills
