Job Title: Head Coach, Men’s & Women’s Tennis

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Summary/objective

The Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight for all aspects of the Mount Saint Mary College programs. This role promotes the holistic development of student-athletes through competitive excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth, while also advancing the department’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive leadership. The position ensures compliance with all NCAA, Skyline Conference, and College regulations, fosters a positive and supportive team culture, and contributes to the strategic vision and decision-making processes within the Athletics Department.

Essential functions

  1. Responsible for the leadership, direction, and organization of all aspects of the Mount Saint Mary College Men’s & Women’s Tennis program.
  2. Compliance with all NCAA, Skyline Conference, and Mount Saint Mary College rules and regulations.
  3. Development of a successful Men’s & Women’s Tennis program through consistent training plans with the health and safety of the student-athletes taken into account.
  4. Coordination of well-developed practice and competition schedules, team meetings, and daily communications with the Men’s & Women’s Tennis student-athletes.
  5. Responsible for the recruitment of qualified student-athletes while adhering to all NCAA rules and regulations. The Head Coach will be required to work closely with Admissions and Financial Aid departments to help guide the prospective student athletes through the admissions process.
  6. Responsible for ensuring the retention and academic eligibility for all Men’s & Women’s Tennis student-athletes.
  7. Adhering to the guidance and direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach will work within the confines of their annual operating budget and make fiscally responsible decisions.
  8. Working with the Director of Athletics and the Associate Athletics Director to develop a competitive Men’s & Women’s Tennis schedule within the guidelines of the NCAA and Skyline Conference.
  9. The Head Coach will develop annual fundraising campaigns to help enhance the student-athlete experience. This will be done through various methods such as the annual Go Blue campaign and other team specific campaigns as approved by the Director of Athletics.
  10. Working closely with the Associate Athletic Director, the Head Coach will be responsible for the purchasing, management, and accounting of all equipment and uniforms needed in accordance with MSMC Athletic Department procedures.
  11. The Head Coach will be responsible for the implementation and execution of a Men’s & Women’s Tennis summer camps program.
  12. Represent Mount Saint Mary College at all Skyline Conference and NCAA Men’s & Women’s Tennis meetings.
  13. The Head Coach will be designated the Event Manager for each home competition of an agreed upon sport. This requirement will take place in the Head Coach’s traditional off-season and will require them to manage designated Men’s & Women’s Tennis student-athletes with the execution of the event.
  14. Develop and maintain collaborative, cohesive, and effective relationships with all Mount Saint Mary College departments including (but not limited to) Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Accounts, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Vice President for Students in accordance with the Department of Athletics, the Skyline Conference, and the NCAA.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities or direct reports.

Physical demands

  • Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation.
  • Typing/Computer Use: Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Vision Requirements: Ability to read and view screens for extended periods.
  • Speaking/Hearing: Regular communication with coworkers and clients in person, over the phone, or via video calls.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 10-15 pounds, such as office supplies, laptops, or documents.
  • Reaching/Bending: Periodic reaching for or bending to access files, supplies, or equipment.
  • Mobility: Walking short distances within the office or to meeting rooms.

Travel required -

This position requires occasional overnight travel, including local trips to other colleges, as well as travel for championship competitions, the NCAA Convention, and conference meetings.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two - four years College coaching/recruiting experience preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and professionalism, with a high standard of personal conduct and integrity. 
  • This position requires the ability to work independently and will be required to work evenings and weekends. 

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

Must be authorized to work in the United States. MSMC does not sponsor employment visas at this time.
