Position: Overnight Counselor
The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) is responsible for overseeing the health and welfare of all residents in the program, support and clinical services to a population of chemically dependent clients with co-occurring and mental health problems. The SAC serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Job Scope:
- File all paperwork on a nightly basis.
- Perform closing runs and document findings via the appropriate reporting system; SAC communication log, incident reports or 24 on-call supervisors.
- Screen residents and their belongings returning from passes, medicals and court appointments in accordance with unit procedure.
- Conduct health and welfare check and have runs in accordance with unit policy & procedures.Â
- Supervise clients in self-medication (under supervision).
- Participate in individual and group supervision.
- Communicate all pertinent information incidents, emergencies, the appropriate reporting system; SAC communication log, incident reports and 24 hour on-call supervisor.
- Crisis interventions and follow up with incident, accident and/or elopement reports.
- Create new resident clinical charts and screen new resident belongings.
- Breakdown inactive clinical charts and maintain inactive charts.
- Obtain urine samples for toxicology testing as directed by supervisor.
- Participate in special family events throughout the year at the Young Adult program.
- Overall supervision and management of client population in the facilitation of the daily house schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- CASAC-T; CASAC, or higher preferred.
- 1 year of experience working with clients with substance abuse disorders.Â
- 1 year of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.Â
- 1 year of experience working in in an OASAS funded facility a plus
- Commitment to providing quality services and outcome driven performance measures.Â
- Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, set and achieve program objectives.
- Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
- Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
