Operations Specialist (Plant Yates)
Operations Specialist Plant Yates (Newnan, GA) - Plant Yates Units 6 & 7 has two fossil conventional boiler/steam turbine units that have been in operation since 1974 and was converted to natural gas in 2015. Current construction is ongoing to add three MHI simple cycle, dual fuel, gas turbines with first fire & commissioning operation expected in December 2026.
This position will be responsible for the development, updates, & delivery of Operations programs regarding training, standards, & procedures for the safe, reliable, and effective operation of Plant Yates equipment. This position will provide evaluation & assessment of the knowledge & skills plant operations personnel will need to be successful in their roles. Additionally, this position will provide general support of Operations department in administrative processes and innovative improvements in plant performance and processes.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Development & Updating of Procedures, Standards, and Processes
Operations Training Program execution includes:
Training New Employees – Multi-craft operations
Assessment of experienced employees to ensure skills remain current & effective
Support training & adherence related to Process Safety Management (PSM)
Support Training for new equipment, methods, & processes
Support efforts at Plant Yates regarding Operations Data Analytics processes such as electronic rounds/inspection gathering, D-11 Tagging & Labelling Standards & Project Implementation, Electronic Procedure stewardship
Collaborate with Operations and other functional teams to ensure performance metrics are met and to provide solutions and/or suggestions for improvements in plant equipment performance
Effectively utilize historians such as PI & OIS to support operations in this role
Effectively use new computer applications, tools, and technology to successfully support this role
Work with Southern Company fleet training groups to support initiatives, scheduling, and Plant Yates personnel training needs
Engage in & contribute to programs such as Operations Peer Assessments, Safety Committee (and associated meetings), Plant Review Board Processes to support operations’ interests
Must be willing to take on system owner assignments related to operations as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills):
5 years minimum Power Plant Operations experience required
General Plant Operator experience is a plus
Knowledge of power plant operations, maintenance, safety, & compliance
In depth knowledge and understanding of power plant cycle processes and controls
Ability to collect relevant data, recommend/develop effective solutions, build a plan of action, and implement effective solutions
Ability to effectively communicate with all members and functional work teams
Utilize all computer applications and system tools to perform in this role
Some travel may be required from time to time for vendor, system, and/or fleet training to support the training program
