We’re actively seeking a talented Junior Portfolio Manager to join our Investment Grade Fixed Income team in Newport Beach, CA.
As a Junior Portfolio Manager, you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by playing a key role in supporting portfolio construction, risk monitoring, and investment idea generation within our Investment Grade Portfolio Management Team. Working closely with Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Credit Analysts, you’ll contribute to investment decisions through relative value analysis and the synthesis of fundamental credit views into portfolio positioning and security selection.
How you’ll help move us forward:
- Assist Portfolio Managers in portfolio construction, positioning, and risk management by analyzing and monitoring portfolio exposures, evaluating relative value opportunities and recommending trade or optimization ideas.
- Evaluate issuer, sector and market developments across investment grade credit markets and communicate actionable insights to support investment decisions and portfolio strategy.
- Support Senior Portfolio Managers in evaluating issuer-specific risks and opportunities by collaborating with Credit Analysts and contributing to the synthesis of fundamental credit views into actionable portfolio positioning.
- Support Senior Portfolio Managers and Traders in implementing investment decisions by monitoring trade execution, evaluating the impact of transactions on investment targets, portfolio positioning, and credit exposures, and maintaining key portfolio metrics to assess trading activity and portfolio outcomes.
- Partner with the Quantitative and Data Science Analyst, Investment Accounting and Operations to ensure investment data, portfolio analytics, and portfolio management tools are accurate, reliable and aligned with the needs of the Portfolio Management team.
- Present and communicate ideas, portfolio insights, and market observations to Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Credit Analysts to support portfolio strategy and investment decision making.
The experience you bring:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience portfolio management, trading, risk management, or a related analytical role within capital markets.
- Strong understanding of fixed income markets, portfolio construction principles, mathematical and statistical principals, and risk management concepts.
- Experience supporting portfolio management activities through market analysis, portfolio monitoring, risk assessment, and investment implementation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present investment views, portfolio insights and market developments across the organization.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree or CFA designation or progress toward the CFA is preferred.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
