Responsibilities

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

 

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring the content of the clinical notes pertaining to patient care, treatment, and services is in compliance with all licensing and DMAS regulations.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs weekly audits on 100% of all open charts concurrently to ensure that the medical records documentation meet the requirements of the regulatory agencies.
  • Scan confidential medical forms and attach supporting documentation to patient records.
  • Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with applicable confidentiality and compliance requirements.
  • Create and organize medical record storage folders.
  • Maintain and manage the department filing system.
  • Collect, scan, and upload documentation into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate whether education and in-service training initiatives are improving staff documentation practices.
  • Gather required patient documentation and use charting systems to accurately scan materials into the appropriate patient record.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Business field is preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. Knowledge of Virginia Medicaid billing and previous experience in medical records preferred.
