The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and/or tests components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. May design equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Applies engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Must Have

Bachelor’s Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience 
Master’s Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; 
Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

• This position is the single engineering representative for Aircraft Carrier Engineering for all aspects or engineering, design, customer support and deck plate liason for the designated program in which assigned. 
• The position requires leadership interface with government customers, such as NAVSEA SDM and staff, SUPSHIP, Ships Force and other government organizations as required. 
• The applicant will be required to interface with Programs and Contracts during negotiations.  During the planning and pre-planning portions of contracts, the applicant is expected to initiate and conduct ship checks and lead the product development process as required. 
• This position will be challenged with leading and representing engineering in waterfront construction support by attending daily test and construction meetings during the execution and smart start portions of the contract. 
• The successful candidate will act independently to perform technical planning and system leadership in multiple engineering disciplines on Nimitz and Ford Class Carriers. 
• Responsibilities will be leadership and coordination at all levels of product development including: requirements development, risk management, IPT interface, vendor interface, qualification, fabrication, installation, test, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance. 
• Candidate will ensure customer functional and technical requirements are reflected in design solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
• The applicant serves as organization spokesperson on the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between management and customers, which include but are not limited to planning, construction, test government, navy and vendors.
