Riverside Medical Group is seeking a full-time Neurology Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) to join Riverside Neurology within our Comprehensive Neurosciences Program.
This role is centered on general neurology and dementia care, with exposure to multiple subspecialty services.
POSITION OVERVIEW
- The APP will practice in an outpatient neurology settingĀ with a focus on memory disorders, general neurology, and longitudinal neurological care.Ā
- A major portion of this role is within Riversideās Comprehensive Memory Care Center, embedded in Neurology.Ā
- The Memory Care Center is an APP-led model supported by socialĀ workers, pharmacy medication reviewers, RNs, and ancillary staff, providing clinical and caregiver support across medical, behavioral, and psychosocial domains.
- Work collaboratively with neurocognitive specialistsĀ and geriatricians at the Martha Goodson CenterĀ to deliver coordinated dementia care.Ā
CORE SCOPE OF PRACTICE
- Diagnose and manage patients with general neurological conditions, including dementia, epilepsy, headache, and sleep disorders
- Perform neurological examinations and assessments
- Order, and collaboratively interpret, and actĀ on diagnostic testing (laboratory, neuroimaging, EEG, EMG)
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- PrescribeĀ medications and review therapeutic responses
- Provide patient and caregiver education and counseling
- Document care using Epic EMRĀ withĀ integrated AI documentationĀ and messaging tools
- Collaborate closely with neurologists, nursing staff, pharmacists, social workers, and care coordinators
- Manage outpatient follow-ups and new consultsĀ (Note: inpatient coverage is provided by a separate team.)
SCOPE OF GENERAL NEUROLOGY AND SUB-SPECIALTY PRACTICE
While the primary focus remains general neurology and dementia care, the APP may gain additional experience in the following areas based on interest:
- Movement Disorders: exposure to advanced therapies including MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS), deep brain stimulation (DBS), and foslevodopa pump systems (Duopa, Vyalev). The program also participates in clinical trials.
- Memory Care: Alzheimer's serum biomarkers, MRI, and brain PET imaging, and coordinating access to on-site anti-amyloid antibody therapies for Alzheimerās disease. Neurocognitive (psychology) testing is available on-site.Ā
- Infusion Therapies: Multiple sclerosis and myasthenia disease-modifying therapies, Alzheimerās monoclonal antibodies, IVIG, and migraine biologics (administered in an infusion center staffed by trained neurology RNs)
- Comprehensive Stroke Program:Ā collaboration with neurovascular neurosurgeons, neurocritical care specialists, and hospitalist teams
- Neurophysiology & Sleep Medicine:Ā access to in-house EEG, EMG, and accredited sleep laboratory services
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
⢠Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Licensure & Certification
⢠Virginia APRN or PA license (or eligibility)
⢠Board Certified or Board Eligible
⢠DEA registration
Experience
⢠Neurology, geriatrics, or psychiatry experience preferred but not required
Skills
⢠Strong clinical reasoning and communication
⢠Confidence working with cognitively impaired patients and caregivers
⢠Cultural competence and professionalism
⢠EMR proficiency (Epic preferred)
