RK&K is seeking a Construction Inspector experienced in water/wastewater utility construction inspection or knowledgeable in infrastructure construction and interested in applying this knowledge on construction sites.  In this role you will support a Field Engineering and Inspection project in Onancock, VA.  Construction Inspectors work independently on project sites but work closely with project managers, project engineers, construction managers and other team members in provision of construction services on a variety of water, wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure and facility projects. 

Essential Function

  • Conduct regular inspections of water/wastewater, stormwater, utilities and related facilities construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans and codes - to include water and sewer utilities
  • Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests , and change orders) as needed on site and in office
  • Ensure that construction workmanship and materials adhere to established industry standards and meet project specifications
  • Accurately document all construction inspection activities by creating daily reports and maintaining organized, detailed, and up to date field files 
  • Oversee and coordinate material testing activities to ensure materials used meet project specifications 
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation 
  • Participate in close out activities, including preparation of punch lists and final inspection reports 
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, and project teams including other disciplines, such as cost estimators, designers, and other engineers 

 Required Skills and Experience 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • An independent self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting the Utilities, CEI, and Water and Wastewater Groups
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, shop drawings, engineering reports and test results 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the organization, retrieval, and presentation of construction documentation 
  • Knowledge of building codes, estimating and general contractor pricing strategies 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Professional Suite including Word, Outlook, Project and Excel is required as well as tablet-based PDF annotators
  • VA Driver License and suitable driving records are required 

 Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • One (1) to three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible, project experience in construction administration and inspection of water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure or similar field 
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, engineering or related construction field 
  • Possession of current VDOT Construction Certifications or similar training and certifications
  • Other roles/titles associated: Field Engineer, Inspector, resident engineer, assistant resident engineer, QA Manager, QCM, Project Administrator and others
