SAIC is hiring a Test Engineer for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Propulsion Test Facility (PTF). This individual will be part of a cross functional onsite team of Engineers, Technicians, and Test Directors working together to advance and test next generation torpedo, combustion, propulsion, and R&D mechanical systems for the Navy.  As a Technical Writer, you will be responsible for the generation, editing, review, technical accuracy, quality and distribution of technical documentation that supports maintenance and testing operations of a complex industrial R&D testing laboratory.

Due to the complex technical nature of the documentation, strict attention to detail is required. The candidate must be organized, efficient, and self-motivated.  They must possess a very strong mechanical aptitude to understand the complex mechanical systems they will work with, excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively elicit from others and capture complex technical information, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced schedule driven environment.  They must be able to handle and effectively manage multiple concurrent projects while adapting to evolving timelines and priorities. Due to the technical complexity of the systems we work with, ideal candidates will have some exposure to MK54 or MK48 torpedoes, mechanical or aerospace engineering, or experience running and documenting testing operations or procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with engineers, technicians and subject matter experts to write, edit, test and verify maintenance and test procedures using Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and illustrating applications.
  • Communicate with Test Directors to understand the schedule and associated documentation needs.  Conduct walkthroughs and process reviews to acquire technical details needed for documentation updates.  Hold status meeting to communicate status and request support as needed to support updates.
  • Editing and proofing technical documentation to support change requests and revisions while ensuring all standards are followed
