Sussex County Community College (SCCC) seeks qualified healthcare professionals to serve as Adjunct Faculty within the Medical Assistant Program. Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing high-quality didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction that prepares students to perform safely, competently, and professionally as entry-level medical assistants.

The Adjunct Faculty member will provide instruction consistent with the approved Medical Assistant curriculum, institutional requirements, and applicable standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate appropriate subject-matter expertise in their assigned instructional areas and support student achievement of the cognitive objectives and psychomotor and affective competencies established within the MAERB Core Curriculum.


Required Qualifications – MAERB Alignment

In accordance with current MAERB faculty/instructional staff qualification standards, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching or the ability to effectively deliver instruction within the assigned content area.
  • Be knowledgeable in the MAERB Core Curriculum content included within the assigned teaching responsibilities.
  • Possess documented education and/or professional experience in the designated content area for each assigned course.
  • Possess documented education in instructional methodology.


In addition to applicable MAERB requirements, candidates should possess:

  • An associate degree or higher in Medical Assisting, Allied Health, Nursing, Healthcare, or a related discipline from an accredited institution; or an appropriate combination of education, healthcare credentials, and occupational experience sufficient to demonstrate expertise in the assigned instructional content.
  • Professional education, training, and/or occupational experience directly related to the content being taught.
  • Current professional licensure or certification when required for the assigned instructional content or scope of professional practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary ambulatory healthcare practices and the role and responsibilities of the medical assistant.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate and evaluate clinical and/or administrative competencies.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to utilize instructional technology and learning management systems employed by the College.


Day and Evening availability


The Learning Management System (LMS) that we use for is Canvas. Prior knowledge of Canvas or similar learning platform is preferred. Although not a requirement strong technical and computer proficiency is recommended.

Adjunct pay is based on $910 per credit hour.
