Production Team Member- Melting Operator

Shift: 2nd (1:00 PM -11:15 PM)




Purpose of Role:Responsible for refining steel to the correct chemical composition and temperature.  AOD Operator uses computer software to enter in chemistries to determine additions needed for refining the steel into the correct Alloy.  The AOD Operator is also responsible for maintaining the AOD vessel and monitors gas flows and instrumentation.  The AOD Operator also must record the details of each Heat for records and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Checks the condition of the AOD vessel and verifies the proper additions are placed in the AOD vessel.

  • Keep vessel in proper working order.

  • Follow procedures as written for each material type and make additions needed.

  • Communicates with AOD Operator to complete each heat

  • Maintains the electronic heat log steps in the melting subsystem on the computer

  • Follows the sequence and requirements specified in the heat process

  • Ensure work area is clean and free of any hazards 

  • Tapping on pitch and updating pitch boards 

  • Data collection 

  • Have a good work ethic

  • Maintain a positive attitude in the workplace at all times 

  • Participate in lean initiatives (6S, Visual Management, Kaizen) 

  • Perform other duties as directed by company   


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Education:  High school diploma/GED 

  • Experience:  Process management & Data Collection is a plus

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting/filtering, formulas, data validation, and basic chart creation.

  • Ability to use data‑collection software or digital reporting tools to enter, update, and verify information accurately.

  • Comfortable navigating spreadsheets, databases, and digital forms with minimal supervision

  • Understanding of basic data‑quality concepts such as completeness, accuracy, and consistency.

  • Data Integrity & Accuracy

  • Strong commitment to high‑quality data entry with minimal errors.

  • Ability to follow strict data‑handling procedures and naming conventions.

  • Skilled at identifying inconsistencies, missing information, or anomalies in datasets.

  • Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information responsibly.
