Sussex County Community College is seeking a part time Porter/Dishwasher. This part-time position is needed to support operational needs of the culinary institute specifically as we expand offerings to the public particularly the restaurant, community workshops, charity events and other initiatives.

This position works in the back of the house, cleaning equipment and maintaining the kitchen facility.

**Must be available Thursday evenings and Friday mornings. 15-20 hours per week.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission of the college and the department 
  • Support the operational needs of the culinary institute specifically as we expand offerings to the public, particularly the restaurant, community workshops, charity events and other initiatives.
  • Working in the back of the house cleaning equipment and maintaining the kitchen facility, necessary for the launch of the restaurant and bakeshop.
  • Assist with the culinary institute’s retail, community operations and special events, including nights and weekend coverage,
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements:

  • Current enrolled and active student at Sussex County Community College

Essential Skills:

  • Comfortable interacting with the public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write English at a level that meets the need for clear and effective communication.
  • Ability to stand and exert well-paced mobility around the kitchen labs, storage areas and dining room for periods of up to five hours in length.
  • Ability to lift pots, pans, and other cooking equipment up to 40 pounds in weight.
  • Demonstrate ability to tolerate demanding workloads effectively under stress and maintain professional composure in a variety of scenarios.
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of students found in a community college environment with emphasis on student mentorship and retention.
  • Prior experience in the hospitality industry, preferred.
  • A deep appreciation, understanding, tolerance, and commitment to free speech and diversity in an academic organization.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment concerning College policies and procedures.
