Job DetailsJob Location: JB-CHI Oakton - Niles, IL 60714Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: $22.00 - $38.00 HourlyTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: 1st ShiftJob Category: ManufacturingPrepress Operator/Platemaking Position Summary The Prepress Operator/Platemaker is responsible for preparing customer artwork and production files for printing by ensuring all files meet company, customer, and press requirements. This role performs file review, correction, color management, proof generation, imposition, and workflow processing to ensure efficient production and high-quality printed products. The Prepress Operator/Platmaker works closely the press room and other evening Prepress Operators, to resolve artwork issues and maintain production schedules. Key Responsibilities 路 Review incoming customer artwork for printability and production compatibility. 路 Verify file specifications including dimensions, bleeds, margins, resolution, fonts, and color builds. 路 Correct artwork issues while maintaining customer design intent. 路 Create and manage production-ready PDF files. 路 Generate digital and hard-copy proofs for customer approval. 路 Execute trapping, imposition, and nesting as required. 路 Prepare files for offset printing. 路 Create press-ready files according to equipment, substrate and finishes required. 路 Maintain file organization, revision control, and production documentation. 路 Communicate artwork concerns and technical requirements to internal customers. 路 Troubleshoot file-related production issues and implement corrective actions. 路 Support continuous improvement initiatives related to workflow efficiency and quality. 路 Adhere to company quality standards, safety practices, and production procedures. 路 Offset plate making on Fuji Film system. Will train. QualificationsRequired Qualifications 路 High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in Graphic Communications, Printing Technology, or related field preferred. 路 2+ years of experience in a prepress, graphic arts, packaging, or printing environment. 路 Proficiency with the Adobe庐 Creative Cloud: Adobe庐 Acrobat Pro, Adobe庐 Illustrator, Adobe庐 Photoshop, Adobe庐 InDesign. 路 Strong understanding of PDF workflows and print production standards. 路 Knowledge of color management. 路 Experience with proofing systems, KODAK PRINERGY庐 and PREPS庐, Enfocus PitStop Pro庐. 路 Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 路 Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. 路 Strong communication and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Qualifications 路 Knowledge of offset printing, foil, em-, de-bossing for packaging. 路 Experience with barcodes, and packaging artwork. 路 Understanding of G7, GRACoL, SWOP, or other color standards. 路 Experience working within ISO or quality-controlled manufacturing environments. 路 Platemaking experience preferred but will train if needed. Technical Knowledge 路 CMYK, RGB, spot colors 路 Color separations and screening 路 PDF/X standards 路 Trapping and overprint settings 路 Bleed and trim specifications 路 Imposition software 路 Resolution and image optimization 路 Print proofing and color matching 路 Press and finishing requirements 路 Platemaking Physical Requirements 路 Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. 路 Visual abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus Success Metrics 路 Accuracy of production files 路 On-time job preparation 路 Reduction of press delays caused by file issues 路 Compliance with customer specifications and production standards
