Job Summary

The Campus Security ensures a safe, secure, and friendly environment for un'ina, employees, and visitors, by providing security services for the Tribe's Campus and other facilities. Security services include monitoring and patrol of, and reporting for, assigned areas. Additionally, maintain and control security and safety systems, including CCTV, fire control, and badge/entry systems. Participate and/or direct safety and security related trainings for staff. Foster positive working relationships with local first responders, including police and fire departments. At all times, the Campus Security should actively utilize de-escalation techniques to address confrontational or hostile situations, escalating concerns as necessary to local law enforcement agencies. Campus Security will be required to be on call on a rotating basis to provide support to the Tribe during non-business hours.

Essential Functions

  • Provide frequent, friendly interactions with un'ina, staff, and visitors to promote the safety and security of Tribal properties, facilities, and functions, while addressing any safety or security issues or concerns in a polite, professional manner
  • Conduct surveillance of public areas on Tribal properties/facilities via foot patrol, vehicle patrol, CCTV systems, or a combination thereof
  • Provide frequent, friendly interactions with un'ina, staff, and visitors to promote the safety and security of Tribal properties, facilities, and functions, while addressing any safety or security issues or concerns in a polite, professional manner
  • Respond to any safety or security issue, incident, or concern, providing assistance as necessary, and notify the necessary authorities as required
  • When responding to medical emergencies, be prepared to render basic first aid and life support, including CPR and AED
  • Secure the location of any safety or security incident and begin the necessary reporting process
  • Prepare log entries and incident reports, following Tribal policies and procedures
  • Maintain consistent presence to deter vagrancy, including direct interaction with persons appearing to loiter or who display signs of illicit activity, e.g. looking in cars, panhandling, etc.,
  • Request no trespass orders and assist local law enforcement in serving those orders
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of previous security experience in a professional setting

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
  • Knowledge and experience with conflict resolution/de-escalation techniques

License/Certification

  • Certification in basic life support within 90 days of hire
  • Must possess valid Alaska driver's license and remain insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy

Special Skills

  • Ability to think independently, problem solve, and address situations that have no clear resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
